Since the mid-nineties, when his photos of footballer Ian
Roberts nude created a sensation with the inaugural issue
of 'Blue' magazine, Paul's celebrity portraiture and nudes
have appeared regularly in Australia's 'Black and White' magazine,
special editions, 'Not Only Sport' and 'Blue' magazine, as
well as numerous other publications worldwide.
In 1996 he wrote the biography, 'Ian Roberts: Finding Out',
a best seller published by Random House in 1997. His first
solo exhibition, 'Body Of Work was also held in Taylor Square
Sydney.
In 2000, Paul's portraits of the Australian Olympic team
members appeared in the 'Black and White' special, 'The Sydney
Dream', and his exhibition 'Olympiad', a collection of his
sports themed art photography, was mounted at Byron mapp Gallery.
Gillette Braun also commissioned Paul's exhibition of Olympic
gold medallist Michael Klim, to commemorate 50 years of the
Braun shaver. This was held in Sydney at Chifley Tower and
in Melbourne at the Aquatic Centre. Paul was also exhibited
by The Australian Centre for Photography as part of it's 25th
anniversary.
He spent much of 2001 in New York where he was represented
by Alex Ely Inc.
In 2002, Paul was commissioned by the National Australian
Maritime Museum to photograph a exhibition of water sports
athletes.
In February 2003,his portrait of Ironman athlete Ky Hurst
was shortlisted for the inaugural photo 'Archibald', the Australian
National Portrait Prize at the Art Gallery Of New South Wales,
in Sydney.
Paul is currently working in Sydney on a series of books,
featuring his photography, beginning with 'Bondi Classic'.
He is interviewed regularly on television and in print. His
work was also featured in Robert Hughes' documentary series
on Australia, 'Beyond The Fatal Shore'. |
